Tuesday Tidbits

Here is an interesting tidbit for you!

1. I asked Curly why we ate corned beef almost every day. He said corned beef lasts a long time because it is cured in salt [with some spices added for better taste]. Then the factory seals it in tins that last for years. The soldiers in the Boer War ate corned beef every day. It tastes all right but I wouldn’t want to eat it that often!

2.When the Lake Manitoba passed the iceberg, the captain told my Dad that only 1/9 of the iceberg is above water. It could have rough pointy parts hidden under water. That’s why we couldn’t sail too close. I wonder if an iceberg could be strong enough to sink a ship?

3. Patrick told me his black puppies are flat-coated retrievers. His uncle breeds them and gave Patrick two for his new farm in Canada.

4. The shopkeeper in Saint John told me that Tootsie Rolls were invented in 1896 in New York City. They were named after the inventor’s daughter whose nickname was Tootsie. Do you like them? I think they are DELICIOUS!
